Visiting Paediatric Ward, Institut Jantung Negara Dated 19 Dec 2009

Dec 19, 2009 - Together with 10 other Lions Clubs, Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North has participated in the Region 4 Loving Sunday Project: Visiting Paediatric Ward, Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) at Wad Mewar, 5th Floor organized by our Region Chairperson Tan Poh Ling, today from 2pm to 4pm to bring some Christmas joys to about 50 children patients there.

We, altogether 12 persons namely President Tan Teoh, PP James Andres (the Santa Claus), Lion Wesley ER, Lion Kok Vidang, Lion Yap Gris Som, Lion Teoh Lee Kwon, Lion Lance Cheah, PP Chong Chin Teck and his 4 Leos - Leo Wong Yi Shan, Leo Mah Wai Leng, Leo Lai Jun How and Leo Ho Ying Wah, representing Kuala Lumpur North for this project. We participated in entertaining the children patients with various dances, Christmas songs, Clown and Magic show. The project was successfully carried out. Enzyme Talk at Seri Setia, Sg Way Dated 13 Dec 2009

Dec 13, 2009 - Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North has organized an Enzyme Talk today from 10am -12pm to teach the local community at Sungai Way, how to make use of fruit waste to create environmental friendly enzyme for general cleaning use. The talk also brings awareness to the global warmings and suggests steps to reduce wastage, encourage recycling and energy saving. The following are some of the photos taken during the project:

Health Sreening Project at Seri Setia, Sg Way Dated 6 Dec 2009

Dec 6, 2009 - Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North again organized the health screening with National Kidney Foundation at Seri Setia, Sungai Way from 9am to 3pm. There were over 80 residences came for the said health screening. The following are some photos taken during the project:

Lions Seven Habits at TOC Dated 5 Dec 2009

Dec 5, 2009 - Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North has organized the Lions Seven Habits Workshop from 9am to 5pm today for the Otomotif College (TOC) in appreciation of their generiousity of letting the club used their classroom facility for the KL Unity Leo program and some meetings. The workshop was to facilitate in the understanding and application of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People written by Stephen Covey. It is merely sharing of practical experiences and not for commercial use. The workshop went well with over 40 participants. The following are some of the photos taken during the workshop:

Visiting Birla Orphanage, Hanoi Dated 28 Nov 2009

Nov 28, 2009 - Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North has organized an International Charity project - Visiting Birla Orphanage Home in No.4, Doan Ke Thien Street, Mai Dich Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi today, 28 Nov (Sat) from 8.45am to 11.20am. Delegates consist of President Tan Teoh, PDG Raymond Tang, OC Ln Ken Jern, Ln Kok Wee Tian, Ln Pun E Ken, Ln Teoh Kah Yew, PP Simon Soh, Ln Dato' Robert Lim, Ln Gina Kuek, and Leo Hai Anh, together with Professor Do, ISVNU Youth Union Students (22 members) and a group of Malaysian & Vietnamese friends in Hanoi visited the orphanage.

A total of US$1,544.77 was raised for the home contributed by our club, our club members, Leo Club of KL Unity, Buddhist Association in Puchong and Professor Do. The donation was used to buy 98 sets of winter clothing, rice, cooking oil, seasoning powder, and Chinese New Year Money for the orphans. Besides that, some members also donated color pencils, mechanical pens and some cash on the day of visit as well. During the visit, we spent some times with the orphans having some activities like playing games, singing songs and dancing with them, and visiting their quarters. OC Ln Ken Jern has prepared full report and project accounts and he will share with the members at our coming business meeting this Thursday, 3 Dec 2009. The project was carried out well and successful. Hereby, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the OC Ln Ken Jern, all the donors, delegates and working committee to make this project a success. 98 orphans of Birla Orphanage, Hanoi have benefited from this meaningful initiative. Health Sreening Project at Lembah Subang Dated 22 Nov 2009

Nov 22, 2009 - Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North and Pfizer Malaysia have jointly organized a Health Screening project at Dewan Block C, Taman Putra Damai, Lembah Subang, Jalan PJU 1A/42, 43100 Petaling Jaya today from 9 am - 3 pm in conjunction with gotong royong activity carried out by the Residence Committee and MBPJ. Our health screening project was done well and quite successful with a total of 280 adults and 176 children came forward for the screening. Initial Health screening has shown that the residence are unaware of their health condition. It is quite alarming to see significant numbers of them were tested with high blood pressure, obesity and diabeties. More health screening and health awareness programmes are required to be carried out to help these over 6000 families communities there.

Pfizer came with 8 persons team leaded by Lee Lip Fong focusing on the screening and consultation while KL North represented by President T.C. Tan Teoh, IPP YF Lee, PP James Andres, Lion Peter Lek, PP Ben Sng, PDG Sam Leong, PP Chong Chin Teck and 3 of our Jinjang Leos assisted in getting the people, doing registration, and measuring height and weight of the people. A BIG THANK to our project partner Pfizer - Ms. Lip Fong and her team, and of course our fellow members and Leos who were there for job's well done.

The residence committee President En Badaruddin, also expressed his gratitude and thank to Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North and Pfizer Malaysia for the said community service project. He already requested for another health screening, health talks and blood donation compaign for his community there very soon.

37th Anniversary Dinner Celebration on 24 Oct 2009

Oct 24 - Over 20 Lions clubs, Leos, delegates all the way from Hanoi Vietnam, and distinguished guests attended our club 37th Anniversary Dinner Celebration at Melia Hotel, Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur last Saturday. It was indeed our great honor to have all of you there with us celebrating our 37th Anniversary. The celebration was delighted with the presence of our Guest of Honor, District Governor Datuk Danny Ooi, who was rushing back from Thailand, and of course our 1st Vice District Governor, Datuk Yeow Wah Chin, Past District Governors and District Cabinet officers.

We sincerely thank and appreciate your presence at our 37th Anniversary. We hope our little function with our in-house performance, would bring you some laughers and joy, great fellowships, and have a good time. Please do accept our apology if there were any shortcomings. Lions International Peace Poster Contest - 24 Oct 2009

Oct 24 - Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North has organized the Lions International Peace Poster Contest at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Sungai Way today to encourage young people (age 11-13) to artistically express their Visions of Peace trhough Arts and the spreading of Peace and International Understanding among the Young Generation. A total of seven (7) schools namely, SJK (C) Sungai Way, SK Kampung Tunku, SJK (C) Puay Chai, SJK (C) Puay Chai 2, SJK (C) Lai Chee, SJK (C) Salak South, and SMJK Yu Chai Kajang, have sent their representatives for the contest.

The contest started at 9am for 3 hours. There were 20 qualitied contestants competing for the 3 grand prizes of RM100, RM50 and RM30 with trophies, and 10 consolation prizes. Miss Yap Shek Li, age 12, from SJK (C) Salak South, is the champion. Miss Yap's artwork will be sent for judging at our District level at Nov 8, 2009 at IOI Mall. Buka Puasa with 50 Orphans at Decanter, Damansara Height

September 13 - Buka Puasa with underprivileged children from Persatuan Ehsan Wanita & Anak-Anak Kuala Lumpur was organized as a joint Loving Sunday project among Region 4 Lions Clubs, leaded by Region 4 Chairperson Lion Tan Poh Ling. The venue was at Decanter, Damansara Height and there was a total of 50 underprivileged children benefited from the project. Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North has 6 representatives namely President Tan Teoh, Zone Chairman YF Lee, Secretary Pun E Ken, 2VP Lee Ching & his guest Evon, and Lion Gris Som. We had a good time with those children and also a big thank to Miss Evon for donating 26 school bags specially designed to support children back problems to the children. LIONS-EASB Scholarship Award Presentation & Briefing Ceremony

September 11 - Under the Lions-EASB Scholarship programme, first 25 academically outstanding students were selected for under-graduate studies in Singapores East Asia Institute of Management (EASB) at the Queen Margaret University or university of Wales Institute Cardiffs Asia Campuses. The successful scholars and their parents were invited for a simple gathering on 11 September, 2009, 10.30am, venue at the Lions Headquarter, No 25-1, Jalan Tanjung SD13/2, Bandar Sri Damansara, 52200 Kuala Lumpur for a briefing session to prepare them for their learning experience in Singapore.

The Organizing Chairperson of the LIONS-EASB Scholarship project, Lion Vincent Hoh commenced by welcoming the successful applicants and congratulating them for being selected and provided useful information for their trip down south to begin their studies that will start on 5th October 2009. There will also be an orientation session for the successful scholars on 2nd October at EASB, Singapore.

Past District Governor Lion Leong A Sam was also on hand to provide encourgement and motivation for the scholars to prepare them for their studies in Singapore. He highlighted the high quality of the education and challenges in a very competitive Singapore and global environment, and the great opportunities available to them upon graduation.

President Lion T.C. Tan Teoh presented certificate of Attendance to the scholars then. The ceremony ended at around 12.00pm with some light refreshments. The following are some of the snapshots:

KL Bird Park Visit with 37 Orphans

August 23 - A group of 24 participants from Lions Club of KL North that included 7 KL North Lions, 4 SMK Jinjang Leos, 1 SMS SAS Leo, 12 family members and guest presenced in a joint Loving Sunday Project by KL North, KL South, KL Host and Tropicana KL.

Together with other club members we accompanied and sponsored a total of 37 orphans with 5 of their caretakers to visit the KL Bird Park. 18 children, 12 children and 7 children were respectively from Rumah Charis, Philea Home and Rumah Anak Gembira. The visit was from 9am to 1pm. Goodie bags worth RM12 each were given to the 37 orphans. Apart from the 4 Lions Clubs' contribution, we must thank to those individual donors especially from KL North - Advisor & Past President Lion Tony Chan and our guest Mr & Mrs Yau.

House of Victory Elderly Home Visit

July 26, 2009 - Lions Club of KL North has lead a group of 22 Lions, 8 Leos and 8 friends of Lion visiting the House of Victory Elderly Home at No.1 Jalan Pisang, Batu 3 1/2, Off Jalan Kelang Lama, 58100 Kuala Lumpur as the 1st Loving Sunday Project for Zone 11. The participants were from Lions Club of KL North, KL Host and KL South.

The objective of our visit is to spend our time sharing some joys and happiness with the elderly there. We lend our ear listening to them, had some activities like singing, story telling, and celebrating 2 of the elderly birthday and had lunch with them. In addition, we have bought some daily needs such as Diapers for Adult, Body Lotion, Surgical Gloves, Masks, Rice, Milo, Coffee, Clorox and some cash donation. On that day, we have also identified 4 elderly that need to have their eye vision checked. Arrangement was made with our Lions Eye Clinic for the check-up.

Overall, we have achieved our objective of bringing some joys and happiness to the 24 inmates at the House of Victory Elderly Home in this loving sunday project.

Blood Donation at Plastic Centre Sdn Bhd Klang Dated 25 June 2009

June 25, 2009 - The blood donation drive was carried out with the Pusat Darah Negara Mobile unit (PDN)at our Lion Raymond Sng's factory - Plastic Centre Sdn Bhd, Klang. It started at around 9.30am and successfully ended at 3.30pm. A total of 42 bags of Blood were collected. 49 intended donors were registered but only 42 were accepted.




A big thank to Lion Raymond Sng and the Management of Plastic Centre for allowing us to carry out the project there and sponsoring 30 KFC Meal Vouchers to the blood donors. Apart from that, we must also thank our President Lion Eric Lee from Lions Club of Taman Tun for sponsoring 5 ctn of Ginseng Drink for the project. Also not forgeting the support and participation from President Lee, Lion Tan Teoh, our Leo Wei Keat and Leo Hai Anh, Dr. Hemah and her staff from PDN, Mr Robert Yong and his staff from Plastic Centre.

Lastly, we must thank our OC Lion Molly and her team for the job well done.

40th Anniversary Lions Club of Kwun Tong, Hong Kong

On 20 June 2009, our club have a delegation of 14 person (9 Lions and their spouse) who flew off to Hong Kong on a visitation to our sister club , The Lions Club of Kwun Tong, in conjunction with their 40th Anniversary. The team consists of IPDG Raymond Tang and Ln Josephine Quan, PDG Leong A Sam and Ln Molly Leong, Ln Nicholas and Cynthia, Ln Tony Yee and Samantha, Ln Tan Teoh, Ln Ken Jern, Ln Vidang and President Lee Yew Foo and his spouse. Our group stayed in Hong Kong for three nights and returned to Kuala Lumpur on 23 June 2009.
We have a very enjoyable, memorable and ‘funtastic’ trip there despite the big scare of H1N1 in Hong Kong. There were plenty of fellowship and singing with the Hong Kong Lions and besides that we also have the opportunity to meet Lions from Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan who were there for this Anniversary Celebrations as well. For those who have to miss this trip due to any reason, we hope that you will not miss the next one with our sister club whenever one is organized. The warmth and the kind hospitality shown to us are hard to describe in a few words but I can say that it will be difficult (not impossible with a little bit of hard work) to emulate them. I am sure our members will be able to rise to the occasion in showing our Malaysian warmth whenever our sister club members are in town. It is my hope that with such trips both our club and its members can forge ahead a closer relationship in the many years to come. Once again thank you to the members from the Lions Club of Kwun Tong, Hong Kong for this memorable trip. Our Best Wishes of Good Health and Wealth to all of you, in Hong Kong.

The Opening of Lions Eye Clinic - 7 February 2009

Feb 7, 2009 - The Lions Eye Clinic is Officially opened today at MAHSA College, Jalan University, Petaling Jaya today by our District Governor Lion Dr. K.P. Kamalanathan, Second International Vice President Lion Sid Scrugg, International Director Lion Hjh Ellis Suriyati Hj Omar, Council Chairperson Lion Patrick Chew, Principal & Chief Executive of MAHSA College Professor Datuk Dr. Haji Mohamed Haniffa Bin Abdullah, Guest of Honor YB Dato' Liow Tiong Lai - Minister of Health, Malaysia,and other Lions Dignitaries. Visiting Lions Club of Kuching North - 11 Feb 2009

Feb 11, 2009 - Club President Lion Lee Yew Foo has led a group of 4 KL North members namely PDG Sam, Lion Molly, Lion Donald and Lion Ben, on a visit to the Lions Club of Kuching North from Feb 11-12, 2009 to get to know more about their club and also to invite their club members to visit us sometime in March 2009.

Our 5-men team attended their Club business meeting, had Sumptous Lunch hosted by PDG Dr. William Voon at his residence, and visited the Lions Nursing Home. The team has fruitful trip. Well, picture paints a thousand words - Let us view the following photos:

Lion EASB Scholarship Presentation To SJBA and Brickfield Buddhist Youth

Jan 18, 2009 - Lion EASB Scholarship committee gathered at the Subang Jaya Buddhist Association (SJBA) around 10.30am to get ready for its 10.45am scholarship presentation. Thanks to SJBA President Brother Chim for arranging the slot for us to present the Lion EASB scholarship program to his fellow members and buddhist devotees.

The presentation started promptly at 10.45am and it took about 30 minutes with Q&A session. It went well with over 40 attendants mostly parents, and we got quite a number of enquiries.



After SJBA, the Organizing Chairperson Lion Vincent Hoh, Lion Ben Sng and Lion Tan Teoh took extra mile and proceed to carry out another presentation at Brickfield Buddhist Temple. We have to excuse Lion Lee Ching as he got prior appointment. Three of us left Subang Jaya after lunch to meet Lion Jowynne Khor at the temple at 1.30pm. Thanks to Lion Jowynne for her arrangement and we had presented at 2pm to about 50 Brickfield Buddhist Youth.


The organizing chairperson and his committee have shown great teamwork. The presentation sessions were successfully carried out. Job well done.

Pre-Chinese New Year Celebration '09 at The Pelangi Club PJ

Jan 15, 2009 - Begin with good bonding and fellowship, fellow lions of Kuala Lumpur North have gathered at the Pelangi Club, Petaling Jaya with their fellow Lioness, fellow Leos and friends of lions, celebrating Pre-Chinese New Year 2009 cum club social. You can see that we were having funs karaoke'ing, enjoying good foods and good fellowship. We must thank the Organising Chairperson IPP Lion Terence Fong and his committee, and those sponsors e.g. Lion Teoh Lee Kwon for sponsoring 3 Peking Ducks, Lion Ken Jern for 3 bottles of wines, similarly Lion Lee Ching for sponsoring wines, etc. You guys have done a fantastic job. Charity Food & Funfair '09 at Tmn Bandar, SS2, PJ

Jan 4, 2009 - Lions Club of KL North jointly organized a Charity Food & Funfair project with its sponsored Omega Leo Club of KL Unity on Jan 4, 2009 from 7am to 1pm, venue at Taman Bandar SS2 PJ, to raise its project funds to help the needy. The project was also assisted by its two other sponsored Alpha Leo Clubs namely SAS Leos and Jinjang Leos. We have variety of foods and drinks as well as games for the event. In addition, we also carried out free health screening and free bone density check respectively with the National Kidney Foundation Malaysia and the ALTERNI for the public.

The project was officiated and supported by our YB Dr. Cheah Wing Yin, the State Assemblyman of ADUN Damansara Utara. YB Dr Cheah visited the stalls and the mobile health screening coach as well as mingling around to understand more about our Lions activities.

Overall, the project has got overwhelming support and we have raised over RM13 thousand but the actual amount is yet to be finalized and confirmed. Thanks to the Organizing Chairpersons - Lion Raymond Kwong and Leo Sam Tan as well as the working committee for making this project a success. Job well done.
