37th Anniversary Dinner Celebration on 24 Oct 2009

Oct 24 - Over 20 Lions clubs, Leos, delegates all the way from Hanoi Vietnam, and distinguished guests attended our club 37th Anniversary Dinner Celebration at Melia Hotel, Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur last Saturday. It was indeed our great honor to have all of you there with us celebrating our 37th Anniversary. The celebration was delighted with the presence of our Guest of Honor, District Governor Datuk Danny Ooi, who was rushing back from Thailand, and of course our 1st Vice District Governor, Datuk Yeow Wah Chin, Past District Governors and District Cabinet officers.

We sincerely thank and appreciate your presence at our 37th Anniversary. We hope our little function with our in-house performance, would bring you some laughers and joy, great fellowships, and have a good time. Please do accept our apology if there were any shortcomings. Lions International Peace Poster Contest - 24 Oct 2009

Oct 24 - Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North has organized the Lions International Peace Poster Contest at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Sungai Way today to encourage young people (age 11-13) to artistically express their Visions of Peace trhough Arts and the spreading of Peace and International Understanding among the Young Generation. A total of seven (7) schools namely, SJK (C) Sungai Way, SK Kampung Tunku, SJK (C) Puay Chai, SJK (C) Puay Chai 2, SJK (C) Lai Chee, SJK (C) Salak South, and SMJK Yu Chai Kajang, have sent their representatives for the contest.

The contest started at 9am for 3 hours. There were 20 qualitied contestants competing for the 3 grand prizes of RM100, RM50 and RM30 with trophies, and 10 consolation prizes. Miss Yap Shek Li, age 12, from SJK (C) Salak South, is the champion. Miss Yap's artwork will be sent for judging at our District level at Nov 8, 2009 at IOI Mall. Buka Puasa with 50 Orphans at Decanter, Damansara Height

September 13 - Buka Puasa with underprivileged children from Persatuan Ehsan Wanita & Anak-Anak Kuala Lumpur was organized as a joint Loving Sunday project among Region 4 Lions Clubs, leaded by Region 4 Chairperson Lion Tan Poh Ling. The venue was at Decanter, Damansara Height and there was a total of 50 underprivileged children benefited from the project. Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North has 6 representatives namely President Tan Teoh, Zone Chairman YF Lee, Secretary Pun E Ken, 2VP Lee Ching & his guest Evon, and Lion Gris Som. We had a good time with those children and also a big thank to Miss Evon for donating 26 school bags specially designed to support children back problems to the children. The event started around 6.30pm and ended around 10.30pm. The following were some of the photos taken during the event:

LIONS-EASB Scholarship Award Presentation & Briefing Ceremony

September 11 - Under the Lions-EASB Scholarship programme, first 25 academically outstanding students were selected for under-graduate studies in Singapores East Asia Institute of Management (EASB) at the Queen Margaret University or university of Wales Institute Cardiffs Asia Campuses. The successful scholars and their parents were invited for a simple gathering on 11 September, 2009, 10.30am, venue at the Lions Headquarter, No 25-1, Jalan Tanjung SD13/2, Bandar Sri Damansara, 52200 Kuala Lumpur for a briefing session to prepare them for their learning experience in Singapore.

The Organizing Chairperson of the LIONS-EASB Scholarship project, Lion Vincent Hoh commenced by welcoming the successful applicants and congratulating them for being selected and provided useful information for their trip down south to begin their studies that will start on 5th October 2009. There will also be an orientation session for the successful scholars on 2nd October at EASB, Singapore.

Past District Governor Lion Leong A Sam was also on hand to provide encourgement and motivation for the scholars to prepare them for their studies in Singapore. He highlighted the high quality of the education and challenges in a very competitive Singapore and global environment, and the great opportunities available to them upon graduation.

President Lion T.C. Tan Teoh presented certificate of Attendance to the scholars then. The ceremony ended at around 12.00pm with some light refreshments. The following are some of the snapshots:

KL Bird Park Visit with 37 Orphans

August 23 - A group of 24 participants from Lions Club of KL North that included 7 KL North Lions, 4 SMK Jinjang Leos, 1 SMS SAS Leo, 12 family members and guest presenced in a joint Loving Sunday Project by KL North, KL South, KL Host and Tropicana KL.

Together with other club members we accompanied and sponsored a total of 37 orphans with 5 of their caretakers to visit the KL Bird Park. 18 children, 12 children and 7 children were respectively from Rumah Charis, Philea Home and Rumah Anak Gembira. The visit was from 9am to 1pm. Goodie bags worth RM12 each were given to the 37 orphans. Apart from the 4 Lions Clubs' contribution, we must thank to those individual donors especially from KL North - Advisor & Past President Lion Tony Chan and our guest Mr & Mrs Yau.

About LIONS EASB Scholarship Project

300 Scholarships of more than RM$14 Million for Malaysians to study in Singapore

East Asia Institute of Management (EASB) has partnered with the Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh and the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff to establish respectively, the QMU Asia campus and the UWIC Asia campus in Singapore.

To commemorate this significant development and distinction of QMU and UWIC being the 1st and 2nd UK Universities to establish their Asia campuses in Singapore, EASB is launching an Asia Scholarship Fund. This US$20 million (RM70 million) initiative will eventually enroll 1,500 undergraduate students from across Asia to study in the QMU Asia and UWIC Asia campuses in Singapore.

The Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North has chosen to partner with the East Asia Institute of Management (EASB), Singapore to establish a total of RM14 million EASB-LIONS Higher Education Scholarship fund to enable academically qualified young Malaysians to pursue a range of undergraduate university studies at the Queen Margaret University Asia campus and the UWIC Asia Campus in Singapore. UWIC – University of Wales Institute, Cardiff is also known as Cardiff Metropolitan University.

The launch of the EASB-LIONS Higher Education Scholarship will allow up to 300 academically outstanding young Malaysians to take up scholarships to study various undergraduate degree courses from the QMU and UWIC in Singapore. The undergraduate programmes will cover the following disciplines:-

- Hotel and Tourism Management;
- Business Management,
- Accountancy;
- Banking and Finance;
- Business Information Systems

Applicants with good results in:
1). STPM / A Levels with A, B, B and a Credit in General Paper
2). SPM with aggregate of 12 or below in the 5 best subjects (including English and Mathematics which must have attained a minimum of C4 (“O” level: 1119 and C5 respectively) or equivalent academic qualifications, are invited to apply for these scholarships.

An Evaluation & Award Panel, comprising officials of EASB Singapore Office and the Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North, will make the final selection of scholarship winners.
